Miley cyrus role Model Or Not?

Destiny Hope Cyrus, known worldwide as Miley, has become quite the pop sensation over the past few years. But at the tender age of 16, one must ask if she has enough life experience of her own to be portrayed as a role model for our female youth. Who’s her role models? People question that she is simply attached to four strings by her puppeteer father Billy Ray. If that truly is the case, and he is the one influencing all of her decisions, then who are her millions of fans really aspiring to be? We like to think that she’s just a small time girl from Nashville, TN, but we can’t ignore the fact that she is well on her way to becoming an L.A diva.

She is unquestionably talented, both as a singer/songwriter and as an actress. She seems like the golden child of the Disney Corporation. That brings to mind another influence she is under. Despite their front man being Mickey Mouse, Disney is still a corporation, and corporations are in it for the money. If a role came up for Miley that can have a potentially negative impact on her fans, but could gross millions at the box office, I doubt the CEO of Disney would think twice about signing her. Consider the money she has made at such a young age through the branding of Hannah Montana. At her age do you not think that that is under an overwhelming amount of pressure and stress. We read about young stars falling victim to their fame all the time, when will we learn? Some young stars seemingly turn out normal, the Olsen twins for example. But have you ever seen a picture of them where they didn’t look depressed.
Hugh Hefner has already offered Miley a spread in Playboy when she turns 18. This makes me wonder what the next two years is going to do for Miley. Will she go from a pop star for young teenage girls to a sex symbol for middle aged men in the blink of an eye, or has that already started to happen.
I think we just have to sit back and think about what type of role model we want our children looking up to, and we have to take all things into consideration. I don’t doubt for one second that Miley is sincere and genuine, but Hollywood has a way of changing that. Good luck Miley.
